Knowing where to invest your time to maximize results is one of the key decisions that businesses are faced with all the time. Investing time and resources into the right strategy is a vital part of running a successful business. Companies simply cannot afford to waste time or money on tasks that are yielding no return.

Which Social Media Channels are Right for your Business

This is exactly the situation that companies are faced with when it comes to investing in social media. A common question that we are asked by our clients, is which social media channels are right for my business?

Which Social Media Channels are Right for Your Business?
The answer is: it depends. It depends on the type of business that you have, who your customers are, and what you want to achieve with your social media marketing. For some companies, Twitter is a great social tool that provides many benefits, but for others, it is not worth the investment. The same goes for all social media channels. This is why it’s important to assess your company’s fit with social media platforms on a case by case basis.

Social Media Channel Options

It’s no secret that there is no shortage of social media channels to choose from. Here is a list of some of the most popular and widely used social media options today:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+
  • LinkedIn
  • Foursquare
  • YouTube
  • Pinterest
  • Instagram

How to Select the Appropriate Social Media Channels for your Business

Choosing the right social media platforms is one of the keys to running successful social media campaigns. Consider the following when selecting which social media channels to invest in:

  • Using all of them is not the right answer: This cannot be overstated. Don’t use a social media channel just for the sake of using it. You are better off focusing on being awesome on 2 or 3 channels than being average on 6. Don’t wear yourself thin.
  • Understand what the social media channel does: A large part of why you choose a particular social media platform should have to do with its capabilities, functionality, and how it fits into your marketing strategy.
  • Which channels are your customers using? If your customers are not using a social media channel, does it make sense to invest in it? Probably not! Do your homework, and focus on social media platforms that are used regularly by your customers.
  • Which channels make sense for your business? Taking everything into account, you need to determine whether or not a social media channel makes sense from a business perspective. Given the time and financial investment, can you expect to get a positive return? How will using social media benefit your business?

It’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint

Once you have selected the best social media channels to integrate into your marketing strategy, the key to successfully using social media is to have a plan and stick with it. With an effective strategy, consistence voice, and regular engagement, you will be able to build trust with users, advance your relationship with your customers and achieve your marketing goals and objectives.
