  1. Collaborate with similar Instagram users
    Is there another brand that resonates with your audience? Try reaching out to them to see if they'd like to collaborate on a promotion or giveaway. By swapping authentic shout-outs you'll expose your account to a whole new audience.

  2. Run a giveaway
    Giveaways work to grow your account if you follow a few guidelines. Always offer a prize that your ideal customer would absolutely love to receive. Keep the mode of entry level with the offer. If you're only offering something small, less people are likely to take action to enter so make sure you're not requiring people to do anything complicated. Simply asking people to like the post and tag 3 friends in a comment is perfect for the average giveaway.

  3. Use 3rd party apps to elevate your photos
    The more your images stand out the more people are likely to tap your photo amongst all the others. There are hundreds to choose from but a few that get a lot of praise; WordSwagg, VSCOcam, Flipagram, Videohance, Snapseed, and InstaSize. Try them out and if they don't work for you, give them a toss and try new ones.

  4. Utilize the direct messaging feature
    Direct messages allow you to send private messages to a single account or anywhere up to 15 accounts at a time. It is a great way to get special attention and communicate with your followers. You can reach out to leaders in your industry, offer special coupons or promotions, or even send a simple thank you message. In any case make sure you're never asking anything outlandish or spammy. Keep things authentic.

  5. Develop a freebie to give to your followers to grow your email list
    One of the best ways to convert your followers into paying customers is to created something you can give them for free in  exchange for an email address. By growing your email list with highly targeted people you are able to sell to them in via email marketing when you have something to sell later. Whatever you create as an email opt-in doesn't have to be a huge offering, something simple yet desirable is very effective.


What makes a good Instagram account? Zimmerman offers this advice: be consistent with posting, only use good quality visuals and get actively engaged.
